Apánkio is a charming taverna nestled in Mitilini, Greece, where locals gather to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine away from the tourist crowds. Customers rave about the generous portions, quality food, and friendly service, making it a favored destination for returning visitors. The warm atmosphere is inviting, although it's recommended to arrive early as it fills up quickly.

The menu showcases a variety of dishes, but don't hesitate to ask for recommendations, as the owner often suggests delights not listed. Highlights include the fried red mullet fish, celebrated as a standout dish, and the unexpectedly delightful white beans. Diners often find themselves returning for the light and crispy fried calamari, paired with a well-curated selection of fresh seafood like grilled octopus and raw clams.

While not every dish won unanimous praise—some found the octopus underwhelming—the overall experience leaves a lasting impression. With great pricing and a lively ambiance, Apánkio solidifies its status as a must-try while visiting Lesvos. If you seek authentic Greek flavors over scenic views, this is your place.

Apánkio is recognized as a beloved local taverna in Mitilini, praised for its authentic Greek cuisine and generous portions at reasonable prices. While it lacks ocean views and extensive appetizer variety, customers consistently highlight the quality and freshness of its seafood dishes, including calamari and mezgit. The service is described as efficient and welcoming, with staff often providing personalized menu recommendations. The restaurant’s charm lies in its genuine local atmosphere, sometimes marked by menu items being temporarily unavailable and limited English spoken. Overall, Apánkio appeals to diners prioritizing taste and a traditional experience over tourist-centric amenities, making it a favored spot for repeat visits.

The portions, food, service and the price were really good! It’s more of a local place and a bit away from the touristic part of the center. The owner makes some suggestions and some stuff on the menu sometimes is missing but other than this is our choice of restaurant when visiting Lesvos :)

Taverna located on the inside street with no view of the ocean. What it lacks in view is made up for in food quality. The service was efficient and helpful. They brought us the menu but, the nice man basically just order for us which was great because everything he picked was amazing. We sincerely wanted to order the whole menu but didn’t have room. This place fills up quick and was constantly busy from the time we arrived until leaving. I’d suggest getting there right when they open or be prepared to wait a few hours. We ordered: 1. Tomatoes salad- this is a Greek salad without the feta cheese 2. Smoked anchovies 3. Fried red mullet fish- so amazing and better than the sardines. This was the waiters favorite dish 4. White beans- this was the most unsuspected dish. It looked kind of meh but wow it was so good. I could have did another order of this if I had room. We never really order brands or frankly care for brands but these were amazing. 5. Octopus in wine- this was underwhelming and a miss for us. We usually like it grilled and tender but this although had good flavor the texture was dry and stringy 6. Raw clams- the picture on google ladles this as raw oysters but they’re definitely clams. The flavor of these were wonderful. Sweet and crunchy however, they were very thin and not meaty at all. Some of them looked like it was empty shell. Maybe it was the wrong season but this one is. Maybe for me. 7. Grilled calamari- this was good but I recommend getting it fried. There was good grill flavor and char but it was a bit tough. The fried ones tender

I am amazed by this little taverna! Don't expect them to speak perfect English, it's the place where locals go ( you'll see people knowing the menu by heart). The variety of medze and fresh fish is wonderful ( not all of it is on the menu, so ask). We had baked fish with green veggies ( amazing!), fried calamari ( it was the lightest fried food I ever had!), a plate of fuskes/wild muscles/fresh clams ( délicatesse!), fried zucchini flowers with cheese ( super tasty), fava beans (loved it!), marinated anchovies ( delicious!), all of it accompanied with very good white wine. The price is great and I suggest going there on the earlier side, it gets busy fast. It's easily one of my top 3 restaurants! (hevent got many photos, the food was more important)

A small simple Greek restaurant. The Mezgit and calamari were delicious. There is not much variety of appetizers. The octopus was not bad but not delicious either. The portions are big, the price is normal. The service is not bad. In short, you will not be disappointed but you will not be a fan either.

If you prefer taste instead of sea view, you are in the right place. We are satisfied. If there is time, I would like to try again.

Every dish we've tried was delicious. Fava beans, octopus, calamari, potato balls, zucchini flowers... The owner doesn't really speak English but he tries his best and the menu is in English, Turkish and Greek.

If you compare price & performance, the restaurant is fare. Sardine grilled and calamary were delicious. The restaurant is at behind the car park. Plates are not so big, but prices are relatively low.

Great food. Very delicious. Portions are big and very tasty. Service is by the owner and we liked the owner. He seems like a typical tavern owner. It is a casual and local place. Definitely worth the price!
